“Now Showing” Harold Smith
Beats break, backs ache, health care sparks debate, the poor still have to wait, the rich overmedicate, schools fail to educate, media indoctrinates, government subjugates, prisons proliferate, immigrants assimilate, global economy inflates, earned wages dissipate, downsizing aggravates, church members congregate, but very few authenticate, the very faith they propagate, holy wars escalate, murder rates accelerate. Our story has always been told through beats.
Bic welcomes Harold Smith & his jazz inspired artwork.
Behind the scenes: video & audio production
Behind the scenes: video & audio production
The world of advertising production has changed dramatically since the days of MadMen (or, let’s get real, even in the last 10 years). There was a time when only clients withdeep pockets had access to high-end production, but recent advances in technology havehelped our industry to make quality creative available to a larger market.
Here are a few examples: a professional video editing suite used to cost upwardsof $200,000. Now you can now get a basic suite for less than $10,000. You want asymphony for the score for your newest project? Don’t call Randy Newman when asynthesizer can provide world-class samples from the Vienna Symphony for $1,200. Andone can’t forget the digital video vs. film revolution; we’re talking savings of tens ofthousands of dollars on a single project.
This is especially important in the current economic climate. Businesses aren’t recordingthe profits they used to, clients aren’t spending the dollars, and agencies and productioncompanies are being asked to produce the same quality work with significantly smallerbudgets.
In many ways, technology has made it possible to do more with less. What’s more, ithas opened the door for more creative people with big ideas to get in the game. But eventhough the tools are now more accessible, and you can get a Hollywood look withouta Hollywood budget; it takes more than a fine arts degree and a MacBook to impress acreative director and make a client happy. Successful advertising production still comesdown to the ability to really listen to a client’s needs, elevate ideas to the next level, andexecute a project on time, on budget and with panache.
So how do you make this happen?
Clearly understand your objectives, terms and target audience. Only then can you addressthe input of stakeholders. Armed with a properly vetted RFP, a good producer will beable to coordinate the details, gather the elements and provide a roadmap for execution.
Find a production team that gels with your personality, and with the client!
Try and get all your cooks in the same kitchen at the same time. This makes everyone’slife easier moving forward with execution. Revisiting a subject because not everystakeholder gave their input can delay the process and result in unforeseen budgetincreases.
Pre-production is crucial. A solid pre-production meeting (or five) to get all parties on thesame page will prevent delay and increased budgets.
Bring the director/producer in on the creative meetings. Be open to the insights of yourproduction team. Share with them the larger picture and you’ll get just what you had
envisioned in the finished product.
Animal Haven & No More Homeless Pets KC Merge, Form Heartland SPCA
BicMedia’s 4 legged friends were finally cast in a project for Heartland SPCA. They were surprisingly easier to work with than many of our human talent. Thanks to Mike Deathe, owner of KISS Dog Training & his pal Leo.
Read more about the union from the website: website.
MERRIAM, KS. – Animal Haven, the second largest humane society and animal welfare organization in Kansas City, and No More Homeless Pets KC, the metro’s leader in high quality, affordable veterinary care and spay/neuter services, have merged.
The new organization, Heartland SPCA, is the first full-circle solution for residents in the Kansas City area.
“Several months ago, both organizations began looking at ways we could work together to help more pets and expand our respective footprints in the community.
As this relationship continued to evolve, merging became the natural next step,” said Courtney Thomas, Executive Director of Heartland SPCA.
The merger, which became effective today, will allow the organization to provide care to approximately 15,000 animals a year through their adoption, lost pet, and affordable spay/neuter and veterinary services
“The work of Animal Haven and No More Homeless Pets KC complement each other well, and combined, will allow the organization to provide comprehensive animal care for the life cycle of your pet. If you’re looking for a new pet, we can assist you through our robust adoption program. If you’ve lost your pet, we work to reunite you. If you need affordable veterinary care, you can come to our Animal Medical Center. We are truly a full-circle solution for the community,” said Thomas.

Is well produced video really worth the investment?
You can probably guess what our answer is, but we want you to make up your own mind. Here’s the evidence & you be the judge….
Your customers are online and they’re watching video 44% more than they did last year (Nielsen). Users are becoming accustomed to gaining information through video-especially the younger users. Does your website offer information in many formats? Are you providing your sales materials to them in lengthy prose or in an entertaining, easy format, such as…..ding ding ding VIDEO?! You’ll offer a deeper understanding of your company & likely gain a stronger connection. Video relays emotion & engages people faster.
So your customers are old & prefer to read word for word all you have to say? Kudos to your writer, but did you know video increases the likelihood of your website to generate a front page Google search result? (Forrester). Yep, 53x more likely! Embed video into your emails & watch your click-through rates increase by 96%! (Implix 2010). The search engines love digital video & so will your audience.
Jane Booth brightens up Bic in time for First Friday (#FF) June.
Bic is brightened by the works of Jane Booth and warmed by the light pouring out through the works of TIBET & DAY AT THE BEACH. Wow. What a lady. Booth, a recent winner of the four state River Market juried competition in KC, MO, accentuates Bic’s colors with her dramatically invigorating style. They say pet owners resemble their dogs. Do “they” also say artists resemble their work? Jane Booth is as every bit bright & refreshing as the art she creates. She says her pieces reflect a specific moment that engages her, motivating her to capture the scene. Take a trip down to BicMedia and take in the energy generated from Booths’ creations. Part of the Now Showing gallery, Booth will be on display for 1st Friday, June 3.
